Importance Of Auto Frame Straightening
When a vehicle is involved in a collision, it is important to understand that in many cases there can be damage beyond the scratches and dents you see on the surface. In many collision the frame can of your customer’s vehicle can be damaged and pushed out of alignment, and auto frame straightening becomes a key to brining your vehicle to pre-collision safety standards. Without this process, the car’s frame would likely not be strong enough to protect your customer or your customer’s family in case of another collision.
As many of us know the frame of the vehicle is not only what gives the car its sleek look and shape but it is the skeletal system of the car as well. Car manufactures create these frames with strategic “crumple zones” that are designed to give way at certain points during a collision in order to protect the occupants of the car. During a collision these zones are often triggered, and the frame becomes weakened or “breaks”. Without proper auto frame straightening and repair, even if the frame looks okay, the integrity of the metal may still compromised.
When a damaged vehicle comes into your repair shop, never forget to inspect the frame carefully, using the proper technology to assess the damage and structural integrity of the metal. In the case of minor damage the use of computerized equipment and hydraulic pulls to bend the frame back to its original position is often enough to restore the frame to its proper safety rating. However, if the damage is too severe to restore integrity by simply bringing the frame back into place, you may have to use a process known as frame cutting. In this case you must cut out the damaged metal and weld new pieces into place. This process reinforces the frame at the damaged points so safety can be restored.
Always remember that repairing a car after a collision isn’t just about restoring its appearance, but restoring the ability of the vehicle to protect your customers.
